Islamic Education Yourself



NAJAASAT HUKMI MEANS: When a person is in need of Wudhu or Bath.
HADAS MEANS: Breaking of Wudhu or Bath.
NAJIS (NAPAAK) MEANS: Unclean or Impure.
KHILAAL MEANS: The passing of wet fingers between the beard, fingers and toes.
FARZ MEANS: Compulsory.
SUNNAH MEANS: The practice of Hazrat Muhammad Mustafa. (r).
MUSTAHAB MEANS: Preferable.
MAKROOH MEANS: Disliked.
NAWAQIS MEANS: Nullify (Break) Wudhu or bath.
WUDHU
WUDHU AND GHUSL IS ALLOWED WITH THE FOLLOWING WATER:
1. Rain water.
2. Well water.
3. Spring, sea or river water.
4. Water of melting snow or hail.
5. Water of a big tank or pond.
Water left over after drinking by human beings, Halaal animals and Halaal birds (e.g. Cow, goats, pigeons) is TAAHIR (clean).
WUDHU AND GHUSL IS NOT ALLOWED WITH THE FOLLOWING WATER:
1. All NAJIS or NAPAAK water.
2. Water extracted from fruits and trees.
3. Water that has changed its colour, taste and smell and becomes thick because something was soaked in it.
4. Small quantity of water in which some thing NAJIS had fallen e.g. Urine, blood, stool or wine or some animal had died after falling into it.
5. Used water of WUDHU or GHUSL.
6. Water left over after drinking by HARAAM animals. E.g. Dogs, pigs, or animals of prey.
7. Water which a cat drinks immediately after eating a mouse is NAJIS.
8. Water left by a person who has just drunk wine is NAJIS.
THE NIYYAH (intention)
· It is SUNNAH to make the NIYYAH for WUDHU.
· For WUDHU one should make the intention at heart that I am making WUDHU to get rid of HADAS ASGHAR*.

Procedure of WUDHU
1. To wash one’s hands, face and feet Etc. Before performing Salaat is called WUDHU or ablution. No Salaat is accepted without WUDHU.
2. One should sit on a high clean place to make Wudhu. Face the direction of the Holy KA'BAH if possible.
Dua Before Commencing Wudhu (Ablution)
بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيْمِ
"I begin with the name of Allah. And all praises are due to Allah."
3. Using TAAHIR or clean water first wash both the hands up to the wrists THREE times.
4. Use a MISWAAK for cleaning the teeth and then gargle the mouth THREE times. It is SUNNAH to make MISWAAK when making WUDHU. By using MISWAAK the reward of a Salaat increases 70 times.
5. Thereafter take water up to the nostrils (nose) three times with the RIGHT hand and clean the nose with the LEFT hand.
6. Then wash your face THREE times. Wash from the hairy part of the forehead to below the chin and from one ear lobe to the other.
7. Then make KHILAAL of the beard.
8. Then wash the RIGHT hand including the below three times.
9. Then wash the LEFT hand including the elbow three times.
10. Then make KHILAAL of the fingers.
Dua Whilst Making Wudhu
اَللّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِيْ ذَنْبِي وَوَسِّعْ لِيْ فِيْ دَارِيْ وَبَارِكْ لِيْ فِيْ رِزْقِيْ
"O Allah! Forgive my sins and give expansion (abundance) in my home and grant me blessings in my sustenance."
11. Then wet the hands and pass them over the head, ears and the nape. This must be done only once. It is called masah.
MASAH
12. WET THE HANDS AND FINGERS.
· Keep 3 fingers of each hand together (middle finger, ring finger and little finger).
· Keep thumb and index finger raised (away).
· Keep thumb, index finger and palm away from the head. Pass the 3 fingers from the forehead to the upper portion of the nape.
· Then place palm on the sides of the head and bring forward to forehead.
· Then insert the front portion of the index finger into the openings of the ear.
· Then make MASAH behind the ears with inner part of the thumb.
· Make MASAH of the nape with the back of the mid finger ring finger and little finger.
13. Then wash both the feet including the ankles THREE times, first the right and then the left.
· First wash the RIGHT foot including the ankle and then make KHILAAL of the toes.
· Then wash the LEFT foot including the ankle and then make KHILAAL of the toes.
Dua after completing Wudhu
RECITE KALIMAH SHAHAADAT:
اَشْهَدُ اَنْ لاَّ اِلهَ اِلاَّ اللهُ وَاَشْهَدُ اَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُه وَرَسُوْلُه
"I testify that there is none worthy of worship but Allah, and I testify that Muhammad (r) is Allah’s worshipper and Messenger."
اَللّهُمَّ اجْعَلْنِيْ مِنَ التَّوَّابِيْنَ وَاجْعَلْنِيْ مِنَ الْمُتَطَهِّرِيْنَ b
"O Allah! Make me of the repenters and make me of the purified."
MORE ABOUT WUDHU
FARAA’IDH OF WUDHU (Compulsory Acts)
THERE ARE 4 FARZ IN WUDHU:
Note: If a FARZ is left out the WUDHU is incomplete.
The FARZ items in WUDHU are:-
1. Washing the face from the forehead to the lower portion of the chin and from one ear lobe to the other once.
2. Washing of both the arms including the elbows once.
3. Doing MASAH of a quarter of the head once.
4. Washing of both the feet including the ankles once.
SUNNAH OF WUDHU (Sunnah Acts)
THERE ARE 13 SUNNAHS IN WUDHU.
Note: If a SUNNAH is left out, the WUDHU is complete but you do not get the full THAWAAB of WUDHU.
1. NIYYAH (intention).
2. Reciting BISMILLAH.
3. Washing hands three times up to the wrist.
4. Brushing the teeth by MISWAAK.
5. Gargling three times.
6. Passing water into the nostrils three Times.
7. KHILAAL – i.e., to pass wet fingers into the beard.
8. KHILAAL of fingers and toes.
9. Washing of each part three times.
10. MASAH of the whole head once.
11. MASAH of both the ears once.
12. Wudhu done systematically.
13. Washing of each part one after the other without pause, so no part dries up before you finish WUDHU.
MUSTAHABBAT IN WUDHU (Mustahab Acts)
THERE ARE 5 MUSTAHAB IN WUDHU.
Note: Carrying out a MUSTAHAB act brings THAWAAB or reward but no sin if left out.
The MUSTAHAB items in WUDHU are:-
1. To begin from the right.
2. To make MASAH of the nape.
3. Not to take assistance from any person.
4. To face the QIBLAH.
5. To sit on a high clean place.
MAKROOHAT OF WUDHU (Makrooh Acts)
THERE ARE 4 MAKROOHAT IN WUDHU.
Note: Committing a MAKROOH act in WUDHU causes the full blessing of WUDHU to be lost although the WUDHU will not have to be Repeated.
The MAKROOH items in WUDHU are:
1. To make WUDHU in a dirty place.
2. To clean the nose with the right hand.
3. To talk of worldly affairs.
4. To do WUDHU against the SUNNAH.
NAWAQIS OF WUDHU (Nawaqis Acts)
THERE ARE 8 NAWAQIS IN WUDHU.
Eight things NULLIFY (break) the WUDHU. They are called NAWAQIS (breakers of) WUDHU:
1. Discharging of urine or stools, or the coming out of anything from the private parts.
2. Discharge of gases.
3. Flowing of blood or matter from any part of the body.
4. Vomiting in mouthful.
5. To fall asleep lying down or by resting the body against something.
6. To faint due to some illness or any other reason.
7. Becoming Insane or going mad.
8. Laughing aloud whilst in FARZ Salaat.
REVISION OF WUDHU
For obtaining THAWAAB of WUDHU make NIYYAH (intention) before commencing. Fill PAAK water in a clean container and sit on a high clean place. Ensure that water and utensils used for WUDHU are PAAK. Sit and perform WUDHU in such a place where water does not Splash back on to the body.
1. If possible face towards the QIBLAH.
2. Roll the sleeves above the elbows.
3. Recite once "Bismillahi Wal-Hamdulillah".
بِسْمِ اللهِ وَالْحَمْدُ للهِ
"I begin with the name of Allah. And all praises are due to Allah."
4. Wash both hands including the wrists THRICE, starting with the right hand.
5. Use a MISWAAK to clean teeth. If no MISWAAK is available use the index finger.
6. Gargle the mouth thrice, using the right hand.
7. Rinse both nostrils three times, using the right hand taking fresh water each time. Clean both nostrils with the little finger of the left hand. If fasting do not allow water to go beyond the soft fleshy part of the nostrils.
8. Wash the face thrice. Do not splash the water on to the face but wash gently, beginning at the forehead, ensure that the face is Completely wet from the hair on the forehead to below the chin and from one ear to the other.
9. Make KHILAAL of the beard with wet palm of the right hand, holding the hand with the palm forward. Then passing the fingers through the beard from the throat upwards.
10. Wash both arms including the elbows thrice beginning with the right hand.
11. Make KHILAAL of the fingers by passing the fingers of one hand through the fingers of the other. If a ring is worn, shift it so as to ensure that no part of the finger is left dry.
12. After moistening the hands, draw them over the entire head (MASAH) Then run the index finger on the openings of ears, then run both the thumbs behind the ears, wipe the back of the hands over the back and sides of the neck, but not over the throat, which Is forbidden . All this should be done with moistening the hands once only.
13. Beginning with the right, wash each foot thrice including the ankles. Rub the little finger of the left hand between the toes of the right foot beginning the little with toe of the Right foot. And completing at little toe of the left foot.
14. After WUDHU recite DUA’s below.
اَشْهَدُ اَنْ لاَّ اِلهَ اِلاَّ اللهُ وَاَشْهَدُ اَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُه وَرَسُوْلُهb
اَلَّلهُمَّ اجْعَلْنِيْ مِنَ التَّوَّابِيْنَ وَاجْعَلْنِيْ مِنَ الْمُتَطَهِّرِيْنَ b
بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيْمِ
اِنَّآ اَنْزَلْنهُ فِيْ لَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِb وَمَآ اَدْركَ مَا لَيْلَةُ الْقَدْرِ b لَيْلَةُ الْقَدْرِ خَيْرٌ مِنْ اَلْفِ شَهْرٍb تَنَزَّلُ الْمَلائِكَةُ وَالرُّوْحُ فِيْهَا بِأِذنِ رَبِّهِمْ مِّنْ كُلِّ اَمْرٍ b سَلمٌ هِيَ حَتّى مَطْلَعِ الْفَجْرِb
